Goals - You Get What You Go For (Wednesday, April 29)

What I learned today?
The power and value of goals cannot be overstated. Today I worked to write out my goals for the next 6-12 months and felt like I was able to reclaim 2020 through these efforts. It was wonderful to look at the macro picture of my growth and development and to make specific plans as to how I would improve and what the impact of that would be on myself, my team, my accounts, my office and my firm. I want to design my career to be as impactful as possible and I know that I need to exert myself in new ways and through a strategic lens if I want to make the most of my time.

How did I grow today?
I took a few moments to be patient today with myself - which led to understanding my own mental health, how depression and anxiety affect me, and what I must do to adopt healthy living habits. I have been open and vulnerable to those who support me and today I grew by taking a few positive steps towards improving my health. These included printing out a running schedule to train for a marathon, changing up my wardrobe to escape the monotony, typing out a blog entry and taking time to write because I enjoy writing.

How did I serve/was I served today?
My interim-manager Kristin, is one of the best critical thinkers I know. She has a hawkeye for detail and I could not have picked a better supervisor to review my goals with a fine tooth comb and ensure that what I lay out will lead me to where I want to go. It really left me feeling empowered to push forward.

I congratulated the next generation of the PRSSA National Committee and also raised my hand to provide an endorsement for a past faculty adviser. It feels good to encourage and congratulate others as they take steps forward on their professional journeys.

#QuietTime: Many times - when we discuss hope, we think of bright, happy, and free of care or doubt. I think that the hope I’ve learned  to develop as a Christlike is much more in line with the thoughts and feelings expressed in this song. It speaks to “rain” and “fire” and mountains of opposition - but hope is eternal, strong and enduring. It is courage and peace of confidence in the face of great opposition. It is a difficult thing to believe in something when it cannot be seen. It is a song to be sung during difficult times, but speaking to the beautiful, deeper happiness that can carry us through to bright days ahead. If faith in God, is an abiding trust in His Goodness and love for us, Hope, is God’s mercy manifest through our soul’s enduring peace.
